[dropcap letter="B" id="B"]ig Daddy, mentor to both Hit Girl and Kick-Ass, is dead. Kick-Ass 2 is the sequel to the 2010 film where everything else is the aftermath and other heroes, emboldened by reports of the exploits of the trio and Big Daddy’s torture and eventual demise on the interwebs, have helped shape the popular consciousness of the world.

Kick-Ass is no more and David Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is living a very bored, retired life as a high school upperclassman.

Meantime, Mindy Macready (Chloe Grace Moretz) has been remitted to the custody of her guardian and her father’s ex-partner, Sergeant Marcus Williams. She’s going to the same school as a freshman.

Thing is, she hasn’t really been going to school but has hacked into the school’s system and given herself perfect attendance, allowing her to proceed with her superheroics behind the scenes unabated.

Watch the trailer to catch up on everything else.

[buffer by="15px"]

Inspired by Kick-Ass, people have began to don masks and fight crime. One of these groups is led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), a former mob enforcer turned born-again Christian. They call themselves Justice Forever. Okay, stop laughing.  This ensemble cast means a bigger world of grays for our old friends Hit Girl and Kick-Ass to move in, as opposed to the more or less white hats (heroes) and black hats (mob guys) of the first movie. Also, they each have their own catchphrase.

[text_image img="https://8list.com.ph/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/REASONS-TO-LOVE-KICK-ASS2-7t.jpg" type="subheading"]7) THE MOTHER FUCKER AND THE TOXIC MEGA CUNTS[/text_image]

[buffer by="15px"]

Yeah that’s their group name, I kid you not. More to the point though, this posse led by the former Red Mist, or Chris D'Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), aka child of fallen crime lord Frank D’Amico, is an objective lesson on the advantages of bringing guns to a fist fight. Which is not only the definitive epitome of badassdom (you know: lying, cheating, stealing, pillaging and raping), it illustrates how real world heroics come to a tragic head against real world firearms and people willing to use them without moral compunction. Watch out for the villain de la crème and her thighs of steel: Mother Russia.

[buffer by="15px"]

All of that brings us to the driving force behind all the blood and broken bones: all this bending and breaking of the unspoken rules to comic book hero-dom is the raison d’etre for the mondo whooping that Kick-Ass and Hit Girl later lay upon the villains in the finale. There is much ass kicking here, yes, and we can even condone it because it feels justified.

[buffer by="15px"]

And the dangers of patriotic zealotry disguised as heroism. The Colonel is that rare kind of uncompromising man who, upon turning away from a life of crime, exacts vengeance on his former comrades with gusto and extreme viciousness. Meaning: you can take the guy out of a life of crime but you can’t take the crime out of the guy—which is why they call vigilantism a crime perpetrated upon bad guys.

[buffer by="15px"]

Because eye candy is in short supply, what with Dave’s girlfriend Katie (Nikita’s Lyndsy Fonseca), the filmmakers have given us the Canadian beauty Lindy Booth (Dawn of the Dead) in a bikini top and trench coat. I suspect because Miss Moretz, albeit super smoldering (have you seen Dark Shadows?!), is still very much underage.

[buffer by="15px"]

Kick-Ass’s crisis of conscience and his eventual desire to re-join the ranks of herodom that he spurred is the hot water simmering under this sequel’s thin crust. As always, his desire to do good brings him, and those around him, many misadventures and unfortunate bodily harm.  For the ladies, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s abs and new buff body means this movie is in no short supply of testosterone porn.

[buffer by="15px"]

“Those girls are evil!” declares a tearful Hit Girl in one scene. Juxtaposed with the high stakes of the Motherfucker’s posse tearing up a crime spree on the streets, Mindy’s reluctance to step back into Hit Girl’s shoes means a crisis of identity that shows in her yearning to find herself in ordinary school life that can barely contain her abilities and huge personality. The popular girls make her their pet project in retaliation, and boy did they mess with the wrong freshie.

[buffer by="15px"]

If you don’t love the gorgeous Chloe Grace Moretz yet, then this movie is as good an introduction to Mindy Macready aka Hit Girl, the character that has defined this actor. If, for nothing else, it will prepare you for her role as the titular character in the new version of Carrie. Remember, pervs: she’s still 16-years-old.
